2017/4/2 Multicultural Playgroup Ichigo-Ichie Report

The 10th Ichigo Ichie took place at Café Kokoraku on Sunday, April 2. 35 adults and 28 kids from China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Vietnam, India, the U.S. and Japan gathered.

We began with the game, “What time did you get up?” We asked each other what time we got up this morning, and lined up in the order of time from earliest to latest.

Then, we made a circle and sung the song, "if you're happy and you know it clap your hands" in Korean, Chinese, English and Japanese.

Next, we had a guest speaker, Mrs. Chen Yan from China. Today’s theme was “Sharing housework and childcare”.

Presentation by Mrs. Chen Yan
She said husbands and wives in China share the housework equally, 50% - 50%, because both of them work outside.

On the contrary, in Japan, wives do 80 to 90 % of housework. She said Japanese housewives were “great”, but should be tired!

Then participants got “Housework and Childcare 100 Task Table” to check how many household and child-raising tasks we or our spouses do.
Groups talked about how to share housework
After the group discussion, Vandana-san from India and Yamashita-san from Japan taught us some greetings in Hindi.

“Namaste” is a familiar word to Japanese people, but we were surprised to know “Namaste” is used anytime; for “Good morning”, “Good afternoon”, and “Good evening”.

Then Mrs. Chen Yan showed us a picture book, “The Three Little Pigs” in a Chinese version. Her son read it in Chinese, and she read it in Japanese. Kids sat around them and enjoyed the story.

Our next Ichigo Ichie is to be held at Café Kokoraku on June 4, Sunday. The theme is “How to spend the summer”. We will be having a hot summer at that time, so why don’t we share some good ideas to keep cool in summer? Be sure to check it out!
